Happy New Year!

I love make new year's resolutions, and although I haven't formally written all of mine down yet, two of my professional resolutions are 1) to handle my submissions pile better and 2) to edit both a Newbery and Caldecott contender.

What are some of your professional resolutions/goals?

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2008!

  1. 1. To meet you later this year in Austin; 2. To sell you on my Caldecott contender.

  2. What's your standard for determining whether or not it's a contender? Hearsay from folks in the know? An Honor mention? Just wondering...

  3. I'd say hearsay from folks in the know. An Honor mention would be overly ambitious a goal for a specific year, I think, although it's on my "things to do before I die" list.

    Don, sounds good to me!

  4. I'm going to say, as someone with a book due in two days who is needing a lot of sleep, better work/life balance!

  5. I want to worry less, about the submissions out there, about whether my projects are marketable, about whether an adorable book I just read is too similar to a MG of mine being shopped, about how well my YA is going to sell - you get the point. I have control over my writing, and I want to TRY to focus on that.

    Happy New Year, Alvina!!!

  6. Wow! Look! Don has two of the same goals I do! :)

Oh, and ready two "back burner" projects for submission.

    Search for an agent.

And, get out of the studio more, take walks, go to the park...

  7. I have a feeling you'll succeed with those resolutions, Alvina.

    1. Get YA revision to my agent
    2. Sell YA
    3. Have YA be a Printz contender.
    4. Complete MG
    5. Repeat

    :-)
