POETRY FRIDAY: A Poem by Richard Brautigan

Here’s a poem I found at Poetry 180 yesterday. I couldn’t resist posting it for Poetry Friday this week. Maybe we’d all be A students if we could study the subjects we love! I know I always got the best grades in the subjects (chemistry, genetics, geology) that interested me. FYI: Blonde girls were not one of the subjects in which I excelled.

Gee, You’re So Beautiful That It’s Starting to Rain
by Richard Brautigan

Oh, Marcia,
I want your long blonde beauty

to be taught in high school,
so kids will learn that God
lives like music in the skin
and sounds like a sunshine harpsichord.

You can read the rest of the poem here.

At Wild Rose Reader, I have three original poems about the sounds of summer.

Cloudscome has the Poetry Friday Roundup at A Wrung Sponge.

Jama,

I wish we had more poems to make us smile. Too bad the writing of light verse has gone out of vogue. We need another Ogden Nash.

Karen,

We must having been posting our comments at the same time. I think it's a great poem, too!

Is that not the best title??? And of course, I think of Marcia from the Brady Brunch and her long, swingy hair...

Chemistry, genetics and geology??? You just gained another dimension! I can't wait to meet you some day and fill out this picture even more!

Sara,

The poem does have an interesting title, doesn't it?

Cloudscome,

That IS quite a line!

Mary Lee,

I love the sciences--especially astronomy, geology, chemistry, vulcanology--and poetry. I enjoyed using poetry in the classroom in conjunction with our science units.
I think that poets, like scientists, are careful observers.

Sara, Cloudscome, Mary Lee-

I'm planning to attend the Kidlit Bloggers Conference in Portland. Are you going?

Elaine,
Unfortunately, time and $$ will not allow me to go to Portland this year. I had to do some real soul-searching, but I think it was quite mature of me to realize that I need to spend the time and $$ going to CO to visit my 81 year-old mother. There will be LOTS of other blogger conferences, but only ONE Mom.
