Photograph from September 11 by Wislawa Szymborska

In remembrance:

Photograph from September 11
BY WISŁAWA SZYMBORSKA

They jumped from the burning floors—
one, two, a few more,
higher, lower.

The photograph halted them in life,
and now keeps them
above the earth toward the earth.

Each is still complete,
with a particular face
and blood well hidden.

You can read the rest of the poem here.

I got a message saying, "This poem is not available outside the United States due to rights issues." Hmm. The first time I've seen that, and I go to that site all the time.

Oh well.

No last line. Yes, let's hold them whole and brave in our memories...
